A charming mix between folk and horror. Beatiful set and and a superb centerpiece. Lots of mezmerizing singing scenes, some nice handheld camera movement and some breathers that gives a nice rythm to the movie.
Unfortunately, thats all that hit me, none of the horror works for me in 2024 and i have seen these tropes so many times. Much of it did not age so well eventhough I'm sure it was contemporary in its time even maybe shocking.
Today its more of a comedy than a horror film, and I like it better thinking that.
The tone is just perfect, moviebg you through different color tears. The casting once again helps it feel so real. Yuriy as Igor is touching and funny, steals the show for me.
Sean Baker's ease in navigating the grimier parts of American society without making the film too dark is fascinating.
Even though the story is simple, and the movie is 2h19, it gets its point across so smoothly and leaves you plenty of moments to breathe.
This feels like a very hard life lesson that can be interpreted on any scale
Sean Baker's filmography is impeccable.
