This is all I can ask for from a film. Jim Varney, John Prime, Andy Griffith, Billy Bob Thornton. Intelligent social humor and interpersonal relationships. Steeped in early 2000s late 90s innocence and colors. Southern drawls and tender moments on the porch in the summer.

The Holdovers 2023
Never has a film been so intrinsic to my own experience, so this is a bit biased, but The Holdovers strikes that melancholic chord that only someone who grew up in the volatile yet persistently wintry climate of northern New England might have felt (queue Stick Season). Especially if that person, after high school, stayed close by, with nothing being more than a day’s drive away anyway.
This movie feels like a classic, just as Sideways did back in the 00’s.…
