The Florida Project 2017
Exceptional child acting aside, the way we see the story through Moonee's eyes frames Halley's life and behavior in such a unique way. Halley is far from a glamorous deuteragonist, but seeing her almost exclusively through her child's eyes gives us a sympathetic view of the character despite what the viewer learns about Halley over time.

Great cast, great acting. I'm not sure why this movie didn't stick for me, but I felt myself unsure whether to laugh or be upset by scene after scene, and it left me struggling to feel anything. Very competently made, but the tonal whiplash was a bit too extreme for the drama to stick for me and the humor wasn't entirely my speed. I think there's better vacation dramas and better vacation comedies, and this movie did both well but not the best.
