Couldn’t tell if I had watched this or not as a kid until the chocolate cake scene came on. Everything about that cake, how fudgy and chocolatey it was, how it got all over the kid’s face, and what the plate looked like when he was done, all of it was absolutely embedded in my memory.
Fun movie, doesn’t really land in all the big moments it tries to, but I love the style. Chris Columbus definitely took inspiration from this when making the first Harry Potter film.
This movie is fucking vibes. Makes me wish I actually enjoyed Saturday Night Live.
The atmosphere is as chaotic and stressful as I expected, but so warm and comforting at the same time. A coziness in the chaos. I think the fact this atmosphere was achieved is kind of brilliant, because it’s right in line with Lorne’s description of the show: a fun night in NYC.
