Make National Treasure 3 you cowards.
Favorites are my favorite first watches of the previous month.
Probably rating this too high, but it A) might be better than the first movie and B) reminded me so much of Tropic Thunder, which gets about 5,000 stars.
M. Emmet Walsh’s character is introduced falling from a second floor balcony onto a first floor table that’s smashed to pieces. Solid Sunday afternoon watch.
Guess I’m only partially on board with the vulgar auteurism theory for PWSA. RE: Afterlife and RE: Retribution are pretty good. Event Horizon is his best movie, but doesn’t really fit the bill. Think I’m more interested in the theory itself and how/what people can see in movies that others have largely panned.
Anyhow, the action here (as always) is pretty inspired. At times feels like a video game cinematic, for better or for worse. And the world itself is interesting, but the story and general look of the movie drags it down a peg. Cool that it exists.
Whew, holy shit. A monumental motion picture on one of the most important people of the 20th century. It also happens to maybe be the loudest movie I’ve ever seen in a theater. Good lord, that shit made me feel like I was in one of those 4D theaters at an amusement park. And the craft on display is just another level. Nolan has always been one of our great technician directors, but he is literally firing on all cylinders…
