Alabama's style is worth a half star alone. Just a perfect job from the costuming department. Honorable mention for Clarence's style as well. The sunglasses for both characters were on point.

Scarface 1983
It's not bad. And now that I've seen the 1932 original, I really appreciate just how much of this movie's story is the same — including numerous exchanges that are copied word-for-word. But it sits in this awkward space where it doesn't have enough nuance or character development to be a good tragedy, and it isn't campy enough to fully justify some of the more ridiculous elements. Most importantly, it could *easily* be 30 minutes shorter, if not a full hour.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Pleasant enough and interesting as a David Lynch completionist, but ultimately a Hallmark movie in which the emotionally abusive grandma wins.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari 1920
Visually stunning. The story and acting are enjoyable, especially when considered in historical context, but it's the expressionistic sets that really set this film apart.
The score makes a gigantic difference with silent films, and I'm happy to say the Invincible Czars knocked it out of the park with their live score at this Music Box screening. Probably worth a full star in my rating if I'm honest. I looked up a version with a fairly generic score on YouTube…
