The Shining 1980
So compelling for its performances and colour and camerawork and soundtrack, harnessing the sprawling, loosely frayed ends that are signature to Stephen King, but doesn’t completely resolve the weak points in its story. It’s one thing for not everything to be served neatly to the audience, but the shotgun blast of cross-temporal supernatural abilities, malevolent supernatural beings, and reincarnation (???) feels undeveloped in its nature - I’m not convinced there’s a logic underneath it that makes sense.
