Nicolas Cage was so fucking good in this and it was a lot of fun but also felt like there were just a whole bunch of extraneous and unresolved elements flying around? Can't be too mad because it was so nice to look at and I felt like the pacing was really engaging as long as I didn't think too hard about why things were/weren't happening. Came close to saying something kind of poignant to me about childhood memory and how we remember/forget in families but ended up feeling more interested in the satanic doll creepypasta and I think that was fine.
Kept thinking that this must be what people who don't like Body Double think Body Double is. Didn't really land as an interesting "critique of the male gaze" for me, mostly just sexist in the boring way. I'll cop that this was probably 95% down to how relentlessly unlikable Keefe was for me and how severely I was wishing for any kind of catharsis by the end. Beautiful to look at, though.
