This film is a nuanced look at power dynamics. Social, gender, and even some undertones of racial power dynamics are on display. The filmmakers demonstrate how power dynamics can be pervasive and fluid.
One of my favorite films. This is one to rewatch every year or so. It gets a little chaotic and the story line can be difficult to follow, but it poses the question of existence and where we originate as individuals. How much of ourselves are we responsible for? How we love and view ourselves, and in what ways to we hold up mirrors.
Storyline
The storyline was somewhat vague. I enjoyed the mystery throughout the film, but some elements felt somewhat incomplete by the end. The themes of worldly evils and mental illness were poignantly relevant. Definitely served as a multifaceted view on dimensions of familial ties and inheritance, place/ home, nature vs nurture, survival, and even variations of how humans gain knowledge.
