Brilliantly formed anti-war comedy. The film has a really sharp wit that I haven't seen in any recent comedy movie. The closest thing that comes to mind is The Death of Stalin, and even that loses sight of its humour near the conclusion.
I need to watch Trouble in Paradise next, but so far my experience with Lubitsch is that his work weaves together acidulous wit, worldly cynicism and a surprising sense of empathy ofthe subjects that comes almost as a shock when watching.
