  Prometheus 2012

  There are some deep problems with this film. Beyond the bad foundational ideas (Hollywood can't grasp archaeology) and strange characterization choices, I still find it compelling. Scott swung big and I would rather watch a beautiful failure than a mediocre, focus-grouped retread (looking at you, Alien: Romulus).

  Look, this is the best, truest William Gibson adaptation we're ever going to get. Even if he got to make another big budget film today it would lack the aesthetic and technological naivete of the 80s/90s.
  There are definitely enough watered down Hollywood elements to criticize, but I choose to focus on the great performances by Reeves, Henry Rollins, Dolph Lundgren and an under-utilized Ice-T. The cyberspace scenes are era defining and the Lo-Teks capture the techno-tribal zeitgeist of the early World Wide Web.
  BTW, that cyborg dolphin was addicted to heroin.
