A ridiculously good crime/horror flick buoyed by terrifically characterized performances, especially from sleazeball lead Michael Moriarity as a loser crook who once he finds out the location of the monster decides to milk it for all its worth. The effects are fun Claymation and everything is suitably grimy.

Rear Window 1954
saw at the Kentucky Theater. This latest rewatch the movie seems just a tad too long - some of the people watching could be removed without too much being lost - but still an at times funny at times sinister and even a bit touchingly empathetic movie. The apartment building set is fantastic as are the little snippets of neighborhood life. Grace Kelly is beautiful and Thelma Ritter is eminently witty and wise. Burr makes a great, utterly human killer.

Sherlock Jr. 1924
I got drunk and watched this while listening to Arcade Fire's Neon Bible and it was an awesome time. Synchronicity was hit and miss, of course, but there were several fantastic coincidences. Regardless, the atmosphere was very appropriate. The film itself is phenomenally inventive and funny. Buster has the best love interests in silent comedy. They have spunk.
