Nickel Boys 2024
Film has a very good theme, but suffers from the concept. (Almost) everything is shot from a first-person perspective, so there is hardly any closeness to the main characters. Two young black men who are sent to a reformatory in 1960s Florida. Brutal abuse, well-cut to documentary footage of the reappraisal, years later. Heavily collaged, more like an album of memories than a stringent film. Could have trimmed some more fat.

Leider nein. Die ersten 10 Minuten sind okay. Action an der Langstrasse in Zürich. Dann leider sehr flach, wirre Charaktere (plötzlich hat eine noch Krebs, neben all den anderen Problemen). Langgezogene Szenen, es will nicht enden. Es passiert einfach zu wenig. Und zu wenig Überraschendes.

The Awakening of Motti Wolkenbruch 2018
Richtig lustiger, sympathischer Film. Joel Basmann spielt super-authentisch, konnte ich mir zuerst nicht vorstellen. Das Jiddische und das Zürcherische sind die Pluspunkte. Die Liebesgeschichte zur hübschen Schickse ist richtig schön erzählt, man fühlt sich sofort jünger. Die Witze sind dank der jüdischen (nicht antisemitischen) Klischees richtig witzig. Der Brüller ist die ultraorthodoxe, ultrahysterische Mutter ("Oiweh, der Motti is ei Vögele!"). Schaue ich mir gerne noch einmal an. Kann ein Schweizer Klassiker werden à la Schweizermacher.
