Honestly if whatever initial version(s) shown to the Dead are at all comparable to what we have today I don’t blame them for shoving it off at the time for something much cleaner and polished like The Grateful Dead Movie. That being said, I more often enjoy these “amateurish” approaches to concert footage as opposed to something as grandiose and composed like Stop Making Sense or, again, The Grateful Dead movie. Not to knock either of those films, though stuff like…

It’s kind of impressive how much this turned out to be a bonafide absolutely regular Horror Movie™ beat for beat. Everything is an ugly gray and/or brown, everyone is some kind of caricature, bad guy looks and sounds funny, the sound gets real quiet then gets real loud, 3 minute long exposition scene explaining the supernatural element etc…

Above all else to complain about I truly cannot fathom a more normal and safe way to try to adapt Dune. Jodorowskys Dune would have probably been terrible but it’s stupid and conceptually spirited enough to still be able to mourn over its non-existence. I feel crazy to still be saying “muh blockbuster” and this…
