The Monkey 2025
“The Monkey” blends dark comedy and horror, following a cursed toy that causes deaths when wound up. The film’s world operates on a satirical, almost surreal logic—authority figures spew wildly inappropriate remarks with no pushback, and a cheer squad bizarrely celebrates deaths. This exaggeration borders on parody, yet the serious performances ground it, making the humor more unsettling than laugh-out-loud funny. The kills are inventive and Final Destination-esque, but the film’s odd tonal balance keeps it from being either a full-blown riot or genuinely thrilling. Still, it’s a unique and entertaining watch, with an amazing monkey design.

Vox Lux: A One-Star or Five-Star Film—No In-Between

The Eiger Sanction 1975
This film is so weird. The plot doesn’t make any sense. It starts as a spy thriller, then comes to a halt for what seems like a 30 minute climbing training session. There’s a whole side plot with an old gay adversary (with a dog named ‘faggot’) of which Clint’s character tells him he has an incurable disease and should kill himself. Clint also make a rape joke at some point. Still there’s a couple of good pickup lines as well, but sometimes this feels like a parody. In the end, it’s not very exciting.
