I’ve always considered myself non-existential. So, why do I find myself completely engulfed and polarised by any medium that explores it? For many, film is a form of escapism. While others are attracted to films that linger; films that, uninvitedly, set-up shop in our heads.

A long, slow drive.
Japanese filmmaker Ryusyke Hamaguchi’s adaptation of Haruki Murakami’s short story, Drive My Car, is a lengthy, dense and therapeutic slow-burn. Despite not being familiar with the source material, I can say with implied confidence that Hamaguchi blissfully captured the essence of the original story.
