Was disturbed and captivated by the actions and psyche of Jack. I found lots of absurd humour in it. A laugh out loud moment for me was when Jack put the sliced off tit of a women he just killed on the windscreen of a cops car.
I read an interesting analysis about the relation to Dante’s inferno and Jack’s descent into Hell. The lowest level of hell in Dante’s inferno is meant to be a lake of ice, this is represented as Jack’s freezer. There’s other cool bits of subtext as well that made me appreciate the film more.
Overall: very funny, disturbing and captivating.
I got profoundly affected by this movie. The script doesn’t go to extensive lengths to exaggerate scenarios in order to tug at the viewers heart strings, instead the script decides to take its time and let things ferment. Writing this makes me want to go read the script - I’ll try and find a copy now.

One of my favourite films and my favourite character study. Paul Thomas Anderson’s masterpiece.
Daniel Plainview is a man I empathise with in many ways, he is a lonely man. The plot line involving his “brother” makes me understand his change of heart and eventual downfall. Everything that happens to him in the film justifies his development into a crazy spiteful drunk piece of shit.
The score is dark and elegant.
The cinematography is precise.
A well planned film.
A masterpiece.
