  I wouldn't say it's an objectively bad movie, but it's the Sátántangó of kids movies. 2 hours and 20 minutes...2 hours and 20 fucking minutes.

  Apparently I loved this when I was a kid, what the fuck was wrong with me? And no, it doesn't use it's ridiculously long runtime well. There's no tightly written plot here, the characters just meander around for the whole movie and I was just constantly zoned out because of how unimportant everything that happened…

  An interesting take on aliens that I haven’t seen before.  Usually they’re destroying the world, killing people, or are far more technologically advanced than us.  Here the prawns are essentially just people who have landed on an alien planet that are just trying to survive.

  The dirty visual aesthetic, almost dieselpunk, is disgusting, but it’s such a well-established conceptual style that it’s interesting to look at.

  Similarly, the prawns are hideous to look at, but the characters evoke massive sympathy…
