Lost in Translation 2003
There's something about this movie that I've always connected with. I don't quite know what, because I've never travelled out of the country or by myself. I think I connect with the ephemeral, drifting feeling of the film. The feeling of being a stranger in a strange world is something most people can connect with. The connection that Murray and Johansson's characters make is similar to the experience of watching the film itself, short-lived but oddly intense.

Third time seeing this film. I still really like it, but you notice more of the edges seeing it a third time. The script is a little rough in some parts (ex: some parts on the farm surrounding the reasoning of the characters), and the green screen in noticeable in some parts, but it's still a thrilling film. I recognize it's not a perfect film, but it holds up pretty well to repeated viewings.

This film is interesting and odd and sweet and thoughtful and flawed. It's hard to describe, and watching it is like playing a film version of connect the dots. The choice to have actors play multiple roles in makeup works in some parts, but not in others.
