I watched this entire movie thinking it was the first episode of the Bear (thanks to a glitch in my streaming site). I kept thinking “this is really artsy I’m shocked so many people I know got past this episode” but mostly kept wondering “this is a neat backstory but when are they going to start showing interest in cooking??”

Jeremy Strong here >>>> Kieran in A Real Pain (who by the way, now that we’ve all seen him in speeches and interviews, can we really say he was doing much acting, or perhaps more pointedly: Oscar-deserving acting?????).

The Brutalist 2024
I’m turning into an Old man who is grumpy about movie lengths. Did this movie deserve to be 3:21? First half, yes. I loved the ride. Direction was nuts. Score beautiful. And Adrien Brody 10/10. Second half, no. A LOT happened plot wise and I felt slightly less gung-ho about watching.
On the whole, I still liked this quite a lot and will be very pleased if this wins best picture.
PS - if this movie was just 2 hours of no dialogue footage in the Italian mountains marble mines, I would hack Letterbox algorithm to rate this a 6/5

I loved so much of this movie. Sean Baker’s attempt at a PTA-esque movie? Middle third felt like scenes from Boogie nights.
My only major gripe is how Ivan played video games. Unless he’s playing Pokémon stadium on Xbox, no game requires button mashing. At one point he pincer-grabbed the right joystick. It was so distracting
