Took me about two months to watch this in 10-15 minute dribbles of expensive, vapid CG. Just needed something to stare at while having lunch, and there was nobody around to jangle some keys in my face.

Alien: Romulus 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
The first time I watched Romulus I was quite stoned at the cinema. I remember that, while giggling inanely all the way through it, I was pretty disappointed with how gutless it was. Watching again at home, sober, didn’t do much to change that. Even with all the lights off.
I'll skip regurgitating what everyone else has presumably said about it - the bland young-adult novel cast complete with a hyper-competent Katniss clone, the odious CG zombification of dead actors…

The Brutalist 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I don't know what I enjoyed more: the melodramatic, mother-obsessed, closeted gay rapist, or the way that The Brutalist's wife accuses him of being a melodramatic, mother-obsessed, closeted gay rapist so hard, so abjectly, that he literally ceases to exist.
Looks spectacular, has some great performances, but also has a script that swings between as flimsy as MDF and occasionally solid, and some uninspired characterisation. I loved the architecture, but then I did grow up in East Kilbride.
