I only knew the basics of 9/11 but this documentary gave me such a sense of magnitude and panic that can’t be gleaned from a Wikipedia article or the annual ~never forget~ news articles.

I keep thinking about the hundreds of healthcare workers standing outside of the hospital anxiously waiting for patients that never came. I keep thinking about the shot of a young firefighter that is calmly climbing the stairs higher and higher while reassuring the civilians that rush down the opposite direction to safety. An impossibly hard watch, but one I’m glad I took the time for.

The memories of all the blissful moments I have spent with you come crowding over me, and I feel most deeply grateful I have enjoyed them so long. And how hard it is for me to give them up, and burn to ashes the hopes of future years, when, God willing, we might still have lived and…
