The Substance 2024
Fun movie, with some great performances, scenes, and practical effects. However, I do think it would have worked better as a short. It is way too long for what it is, and the repetitiveness of its scenes ends up undermining their impact.

Feels like a movie with nothing to say that resorts to conservative views of what is "scary" or "evil" as a shortcut to develop an antagonist.
Maybe it's about parenthood? About childhood trauma? Possibly, but all of this is hidden behind messy and goofy plot points trying to hamfist "creepy" scenes.
People in general really seem to like it, so it might just not be for me, some of the "creepy" scenes were genuinely just making me laugh at how goofy it all was.
