It’s always great to see Charles Laughton and there are some great moments. Sir Pengallon singing the praises of his “new girl” right before she walks in, and then having the new girl turn out to be a horse rather than the actual girl we have just met is a nice little Hitchcock joke, and there are definitely some exciting scenes. But overall it does rather drag.
Perhaps it’s unfair to compare this to the rest of the master’s work,…
