  embarrassingly i watched this in its entirety thinking it was the david lynch film — needless to say i couldn’t figure out what the praise was about. i feel marginally better reading the reviews here from people who made the same mistake. 

  that said, this was a miserable movie. the performances were hollow all around (not to mention merrick’s lack of any physical deformity) and the second half was dragged out to a rather stilted ending. now i need to cleanse my palette with something more bearable.

  an exhilarating movie from start to finish. raw, grimy and tragic. from lust for life, to perfect day and mile end — a flawless soundtrack that encapsulates both the most cathartic and agonizing experiences of our cast. 

  the only movie to make me put down my joint & pick up a toilet brush.
