“They should have sent a poet”
One of my favorite movie, and novel of all time by one of my heroes, Carl Sagan. My 2001.
While Kubrick’s masterpiece is undeniable, Contact is my 2001. A much more Earthly, human, and grounded take on first contact that feels so incredibly real to me. Possession 1981
Great acting by the leads. Disturbing and creepy from start to finish. Kind of overhyped for me I wish I watched with lesser expectations. I definitely see the Nosferatu (2024) inspiration for Lily Rose-Depp. The bluish greyish color scheme was very unique. I doubt I will ever rewatch.

Little Miss Sunshine 2006
I first watched Little Miss Sunshine with my father when I was far too young to understand it. Or better put, I watched my father watch it without his permission. And I didn't get that Alan Arkin was doing heroin. I didn't understand that Steve Carrell was gay and had attempted suicide, I couldn't understand why my Dad was laughing so hard at the Talent Show MC. And I definitely didn't understand the whole subplot about Greg Kinnear being treated…
