Girls Always Happy 2018
mother-daughter dynamic in post-revolution China is difficult man.
Interesting watch with some really nice shots and some nice twists/ subversions. I think it does a real nice job of portraying how generational trauma can affect us while also reflecting the social issues of the time - particularly amongst the ageing population. The mother-daughter relationship is so nuanced and everything is filmed so intimately with very few scene location changes - a very god depiction of the mundanity of life and yet how emotionally complex and layered it is at the same time

the best war movie, in my opinion - does not hold back in its depiction of the horrors of war and the effect they have on the human psyche - some of the best acting I've ever witnessed.
