Dreams 1990
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Was able to watch this movie at a two-week seminar on World Cinema a few years back. Scenes based on Van Gogh’s painting, with motifs of death as seen from Gothic Literatire (e.g. crows as symbols of death in “Wheatfield with Crows”) and Hokusai’s ukiyo-e (“Fine Wind, Clear Morning”)… A captivating example of engagements of other forms of art in films.
What interested me was the circular narrative structure, in which the theme of death and the contemplation of death (as a concept, perhaps) connect the chapters, making one echo with the other.
