an acting masterclass from Marianne Jean-Baptise, she should’ve been Oscar nominated for this.
I wish I hadn’t seen this in an Everyman cinema in Finsbury Park on a Saturday evening though. Just a lot of middle class white people saying ‘oh GOD!’ constantly out of frustration (even at the end when the credits rolled) with no empathy or understanding that this character is very real for lots of people.
The acting made it great but acting aside it wasn’t a ‘great’ film. Was more a great piece of theatre.

It’s obvious Elvis only ever wanted a prop, not an actual human being on his arm. He wanted an accessory he could customize completely to match his brand which was why he had to go after such a young girl, because no woman his own age would put up with his controlling bullshit.
