perhaps i am biased, but dafoe was enrapturing amongst some very disappointing performances, especially lily rose depp plus the forgettable guy who is supposed to be her husband (the cuckold). the writing was uncommitted. Eggers cowered away from a decisive direction or theme and the film suffered. this is a decisive step in the wrong direction for his filmmaking. EGGERS YOU FUCKED UP! you wasted a good opportunity. you could have gone so much further and you refused.
