As a film: decent, some good artistic vision here and there, acting isn’t anything to write home about, cool to see Alexander Ward playing a vampire again.
As an adaptation: poor, missing some of my favorite scenes, strange changes to backstory and plot, overall lacking the building dread of the novel, pacing is all over the place and feels rushed.
Consensus: disappointed as a fan of the novel, but I was still enjoying myself and don’t regret the time spent watching it.

Somehow Joaquin Phoenix managed to make me more uncomfortable in the first 5 minutes of this film than he did in all of Beau is Afraid.
Also thank god, they acknowledged that Jesse Plemons looks like a younger PSH.
