I LOVED this film. It's storyline and cinematography beautifully captures the isolation and melancholic climate of the Yorkshire countryside. Emma mackays acting is on point. It tackles faith and misogyny in a way that I haven't seen before. Emily Bronte was continually misunderstood as dark or unusual and that reflects in her work to maney people, but this film shows the beauty and peace in her alternative perspective on life and love.
The only thing is. I later read up…
The most mind altering film I have ever watched. A harrowing reminder that pivilage is a lucky draw. I still think about this movie and I tear up at the thought. It's an incredibly intimate journey of boyhood. Soaked in grief, joy and curiosity with little reminders of the otherwise surpressed boystrousness of an underprivileged child. The acting of this little man is better than anything I have seen. A must watch.
How I imagine a horror story might pan out in the real world. The style is reminiscent of old 50s media but the storyline and acting I think feels very realistic. This doesn't feel like a horror film but an uncomfortable documentary of a girls downward spiral. It's pretty slow and confusing and in parts funny. Zero jumpscares so good to watch alone.
