In an hour and thirty minutes this little film tackles the everyday beauties of life, the extraordinary consuming love that comes with having a little person to care for, and the forgiveness we can extend to those who have hurt us.
Aside from that, it is a really beautiful film. The blue and red jacket that John wears around, his and Michael’s caps like little beacons on screen. The parks, the windows, everywhere teeming with life as well as the reminder that life will end. Yet there is beauty in all of it, and the film quietly, carefully, and masterfully shows us all of it.
I find it frustrating that I was left with no answer at all to why they were chasing after Jake Sully after he had given up the reins in the forest, why our hero was willing to let multiple villages die, if necessary, to save his and his family’s lives, what motivates any of these characters aside from love that we are told about rather than shown, and how they lived and breathed out of this thin narrative that barely…
