Wim Wenders - King of The Road (India Tour)

    Day #2 - Thiruvananthapuram

Closing film of his TVM leg of the India Tour.

Watching it on the big screen has now become a core memory, happily unlocked for me. A splendid Q&A session with the maestro himself, post-screening. Wenders shared some wonderful trivia and filmmaking secrets during his talk.

As for the film viewing experience—being exposed to a shitty print of the film during undergrad, and seeing a 4K restored…

Wim Wenders - King of The Road (India Tour)

    Day #2 - Thiruvananthapuram

Cinematic proof that Wim Wenders is a living angel who dropped down into human form, to assist humankind and cinema heritage. I've no further words to describe one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. See it on the big screen, one must!

    At Five in the Afternoon

    ★★★½

The ideas were good on paper, but the execution falters. This could be attributed largely due to the difficulties of shooting on location with non-professional actors in early 2000s post-Taliban period, but I'd have preferred if the final edit stuck to realism throughout than attempt at slighter formalist tendencies towards the latter quarter.

Also, eff the Taliban and eff religious fundamentalism. They've destroyed the Afghani people since 1996 and they still do so since 2021.

Every now and again, when the world seems to get complacent—watch this and truly ingest Baldwin's eternal words.
