Prima facie, 'Megalopolis' is a daring film. Its lurid, scintillating visual style has already become contentious. The horizon of boundless gilded conurbations, the licentious fashions, saccharine mise en scène; it is an optic sugar high. It's alluring. Like some kind of gilded chocolate cake, you feel guilty enjoying it. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga 2024
The discontinuity between Furiosa and the 1979 Mad Max is immediately apparent. Stylistically, from the green pastoral scenery of regional Victoria where the first film was shot, to the colour and vibrancy of the vehicles and more a modern aesthetic breaking through in the costuming, Furiosa, by contrast, feels like the product of a distinct artistic lineage.
