It started out a bit in the uncanny valley, but after a while I got used to the weird ape animation. I think this is probably the best of the recent three in this franchise. The visuals were spectacular, the music was great though the surround sound mixing was pretty mid. Plot was OK, characters were OK, usually I don’t like a cliffhanger but this one really built up to it and I was happy to see the payoff. There was enough world building and callouts to the origin story to keep me interested. Overall I’m pretty happy with this installment.

Heart Eyes 2025
This is an OK comedy horror movie. I didn’t know it was going to be comedy before seeing it, but I was pleasantly surprised with how some of the jokes landed. It’s silly, but in a campy good way, and although I didn’t really care at all about the villain, I did enjoy how they wrapped it up. It is remarkably unbelievable though. I don’t think they needed to make the encounters as far-fetched as they were. It didn’t really add much in the way of suspense, terror, or comedy.

Strange Darling 2023
This movie was fantastic. I was initially put off by the decision to cut it out-of-order, but I quickly saw why they chose to do it that way. I read nothing about it before going in. The performances were excellent, the music was very thematic, the action and gore were visceral and tasteful, and the plot had enough details and good pacing to keep me from checking the time on my watch after the first 15 minutes - very impressive!
