Glazer is solely capable of blindly perpetuating Arendt's famous (and frankly, exceedingly trite by now) 'banality of evil' concept for the entirety of the movie without ever adding anything of substance to the original philosopher's idea. To be clear, environments such as those portrayed were an undeniable part of the German dictatorial period. But what is the scope of this film…

Portrait of a Lady on Fire 2019
Visually stunning, very good acting and generally a relaxing, quasi-cathartic experience. The creaking of the deteriorating wood, the gentle sunlight coming from the baroque windows, the serene breeze typical of a seaside residence all come together and deliver a truly soothing two-hours. Despite me expecting an LGBTQ+ political work, the movie is a simple, artful romance with a couple of memorable conversations that made me ponder about my own experience.
The thing is... I wonder whether I enjoyed this movie…
