It’s good to see Guadagnino continue his cinematically playfull phase - throwing off conventions like Lee throws back tequilas - and Craig is more than up for the task, but I’m not sure Burroughs’ singular visions can ever be successfully translated to a film. Maybe just because of the expectations the audience comes with. I am glad filmmakers are still trying though. In this case it led to a few truly beautiful moments and a thrumming mood throughout (as well as a trip scene for the ages).
