  The Texas Chain Saw Massacre masterfully taps into the viewer's subconscious by using various filmmaking techniques. From its documentary-style opening, which claims factual roots, to its grimy aesthetic, the film skillfully blurs the line between fiction and reality. The title of the film is the first manipulation employed by filmmaker Tobe Hooper. "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" conjures up bloody and gory imagery that the viewer is forced to consider. The consideration of this imagery by the viewer begins before the film starts and stays in the subconscious of the viewer for the duration of the film.

  Maybe you had to be there when it came out, but I’ve loved this film since opening weekend. I rewatch it yearly. It’s the perfect mainstream 90’s “horror” film. From its homage to classics like John Carpenters The Thing to its amazing ensemble cast, The Faculty is just good fun. The screenplay is by Kevin Williamson at the height of his powers. Watching it all these years later, I see the age but I also feel its comfort.
