“Across the Spider-verse” is evidence that the best movies are not built on the “what” of stories, but rather on the “who” and the “how”. Ultimately, the plot of Spiderverse is simple and, at its core, similar to other stories. Yet it’s powerful impact comes from the genuineness of the characters, the growth of such characters and their relationships, as well as the high attention to detail that permeates the movie. I enjoyed the story and spectacle, but it’s the other things that stuck with me long after I left the theater.
