didn’t expect part 2 to be such a brilliant allegory on capitalism vs utopia in regards to family. loyalty, property, generational trauma, etc etc. capitalism strengthens family ties when it’s good for business, and we see how this family struggles against the arm of capital in nearly every aspect of building a generational legacy. the exceptional way of using the plight of working class italians in the bronx to correlate to a family’s generational and familial wealth was genius. no notes, a perfect sequel and arguably perfect film, so good!!

you know when a movie is so seamless and perfect you don’t recognize how good it is because it set the standard for so much of what filmmaking would become? that’s how i felt watching the godfather. everything synergized so well around a revolutionary script where the stakes felt real and intense. i don’t have anything to say about this movie that hasn’t already been said but wow what a film!

i did not enjoy this film very much haha. it felt distant and cold, which ironically i think is the opposite of the intention of the film maker. the political crisis serves as a conflict point solely rather than a vehicle to illicit meaningful conversation from parent to child. we’re left as viewers with a very liberal point of view “you can love everyone as long as they’re kind” with no real dissection of the complex and contradictory political climate this family lives in. not enjoyable and it felt cold and uninspired, minus a few respectable monologues from the grandparents and mom.

this was just another boring biopic. nothing incredibly introspective or affirming or thought provoking. just a replication. the addition of james and his entire storyline was beyond unnecessary. only thing worse was the awkward and try-hard behind james and the character of suki waterhouse.

there could have been original and exciting conversations about authenticity, greed, the expectations of art, etc.

i liked that this film didn’t rely on dali’s actual artwork to craft the visual story. but the visual motifs present were boring. overall just not a fan
