Clever at points, but it doesn’t share the same magic that I feel from Baker’s other films. Maybe I just prefer him working with more impoverished settings because that’s where his commentary on our American landscape really shines. I didn’t connect with any of the characters, in fact I kind of disliked everyone. Sometimes that works, but for me this was just eh.

Mickey 17 2025
A sprawling, witty and entertaining time at the movies. I loved the small bits of world building, the props and costumes and side plots that hint at a really interesting dystopia. I wish that it were longer, or that it could’ve been stretched across multiple chapters. I wanted to dig into the world more, learn more about the characters and how the universe they’re in works. Pattinson gives a fantastic performance showing off two sides of the same coin, and I loved the rest of the ensemble. It’s always fun watching Toni Collette go full freak.

Smile 2 2024
Genuinely scary and disorienting, some very intense imagery and incredible camera work. This second chapter hits home even more the themes of depression and psychosis and how they affect our perception of everything around us, which is why I feel it feels so terrifying. You never know what’s real in this, how much of it is a deranged hallucination put on by the demon inside. Highly enjoyed.

Stopmotion 2023
An inventive, brutal and gross head scrambler of a film. Still falls well within this new modern horror genre that’s essentially just tumblr scary stories on screen, but there are some really amazing and creepy choices made here that elevate it just a little and make it totally worth the watch.
