Black man hates movies. I don't always have the range but I try.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Barring a scene where a sexual assault of a 17 year old Black boy by a neighbor is framed as a a triumph, I liked this. The fly in the milk experience is captured well in nearly every scene, and it’s humor and melodrama largely work when they’re meant to. Ernest Dickerson is great, and this is an example why.
You can tell this was made by a special effects artist. While the practical effects are great, the CGI doesn't hold up as well but it was 97 and used sparingly so it doesn't matter too much. The plot and pacing feels like a goofier Hellraiser (complete with a scene where the Djinn walks away from security guard Kane Hodder damn near saying ”curses”). Overall its an enjoyable supernatural film that has a bunch of cameos of slasher greats, a fun villain, and some great kills.
