    Heartbreaking doesn't do this film justice, no, not even gut wrenching is enough.

    Grave of the Fireflies is a tragedy so beautiful and yet so haunting it's difficult to rewatch. It is a somber exploration of human pride in it's precipitous downfall, presented ever poingnantly, yet uncompromising on its account of the horrors of war.

    I will say, this film is ripe with a disturbed atmosphere, well in sync with the eerieness of the eponymous character. Otherwise, The Babadook falls somewhat flat, never ascending to truly haunting heights. While Essie Davis' performance is a comendable, overall the film is a tad too formulaic for me.
