Performances were really strong. I was really turned off by the POV approach to the film. Bold, but didn’t work for me. I was tired of it as 5 minutes into the film. Unfortunately, by the end I was sooo ready for the film to be over.
I really enjoyed living in the Paris of this film. Felt like a very familiar city, with "normal" people leading "normal" lives. It was nice to see a film about romance in Paris where the place isn't romanticized. It was just a city, that's all. Biking around helped with this--there's no better way to see and feel a city than on a bicycle. I was really drawn to the moments of travel (especially the last scene of the movie). I…
Visually and sonically intoxicating. The pacing is impeccable. The experience of Dahomey held me in a constant state of contemplation (in the same way the people of Benin were contemplating the treasures’ importance in their own lives, past present and future). A really thoughtful and well made film.
Unbelievably beautiful. The story of the film is just as epic as the story in the film. Self-financed, 24 locations shot over the course of four years. Big cheers to filmmakers who bet on themselves 🥂. Really inspiring. Was a welcomed reminder that anything is possible in this art form. Can’t wait to show this to my son when he’s ready.
