Unique and unexpected but topical. I appreciated the scale to which Garland went to show the breadth of what a catastrophe like civil war would like.
There were times throughout the movie I thought: “this is an example of poor writing but great direction” and there were parts that I would certainly agree that would be the case looking back. As much as this movie is a good movie, I have to say it was sort of a reflection of how crazy the 60’s to 80’s really were in the American psyche. Through the eyes of an observer without an ideology, Forrest Gump is the perfect narrator who doesn’t say a word to the audience. I mean that sincerely.
