I recently upped this to a five.
I fucking hate Facebook, and Zuckerberg, and what social media has done to us as a species in the late 2000s. However. I don't think any film has captured that sense of being involved in making something cutting edge and cool like the opening 20 mins of this film. Finchers signature direction, Sorkins ridiculously good dialogue, and Reznor + Atticus' astounding score put you right there in that space that's difficult to describe…
I wouldn't want to give this film the accolade of "the worst film I ever watched" because that gives it platform where it can be compared to other films I have seen.
This isnt a film. It's a portfolio piece, a promo film for Shyamalan's daughter's middling pop music.
Imagine Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. A big 2 hour long music video. With tonnes of money thrown at it. Amazing ILM effects. Joe Pesci. And Michael's TALENT.
Now imagine Moonwalker, remade, with…
A film that despite it's ultra violence and overall themes, feels like wearing cosy slippers.
Scorsese brings you into this story and holds your hand, so you can safely be along for the ride.
A total masterpiece of what is now his "unreliable narrator" genre of biopic cinema.
The greatest sequel of all time and Cameron's magnum opus.
Even the special edition with it's extra footage has absolutely no fat. An absolute masterclass in tension, action choreography, world building, production design, lighting, sound design.... Everything this movie does has been poorly emulated elsewhere.
An absolute 10/10.
