  The Hunger Games 2012

  I've been reading and really enjoying the books with the kiddo, but the film adaptation is just all right. I really like all the actors (Donald Sutherland!). Some of the filmmaking looks pretty dated aesthetically, though, and, like some adaptations tend to do, it sort of speedwalks through the plot, giving everything a rushed feel. Oh well. The books are rad.

  I'm obviously not the target audience, but I didn't really enjoy this one. I find the books creative and pleasant enough in their own weird way (and I do think they've got some good messaging, which I appreciate), but I don't think it translated to the big screen very well.

  It would seem kind of churlish to rate A Close Shave anything less than 5 stars. In the Aardman oeuvre it's second only to The Wrong Trousers.
