After watching so many horror movies and thriller films where the woman always ends up dead with no recourse for the killer, Woman of the Hour was a refreshing departure from that sort of anguish. I loved seeing Anna Kendrick's name attached to a directing credit, especially with the great performance she gave as a star in the film. The intersection of seventies from the serial killer to the network game show to swanky southern California made the movie for me. Felt like a fun, fervid PSA on male violence and the uselessness of law enforcement in various jurisdictions when it comes to addressing such crimes.

Barbie 2023
Barbie. What is a Barbie? A doll? A new toy to give young girls the chance to play at something other than sing mothers? A beauty standard? A feminine standard? A reflection of the priorities of our society? A tool to dismantle the patriarchy? A rule book to throw out and be changed? A defense mechanism against men with horses?
You can decide after you watch Barbie. Greta Gerwig seamlessly ties together the themes of girlhood, womanhood, and gender roles…
