Blue Velvet 1986
I really enjoyed the surreal, dream-like feeling of this movie - a mood I’ve never quite experienced in a movie before. It’s horrifying, thrilling, disorienting, confusing. The music is fantastic, too. I could see a higher rating for this movie on a future watch.

A tragedy with a Shakespearean ending. The plot on its own is not unfamiliar, but Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke add so much depth to their characters and make the movie special. I was surprised to see a lot of people dismiss the non-linear story line as cliche, but I thought the plot unfolded in a great order. There were many scenes that had such patience and allowed the actors to fill the space with little details that drew…

This movie is an acid trip.
I want to like this movie so bad and I feel like an idiot because I don’t. Chihiro is a wonderful character who shows the power of kindness, and Haku is great, too. This movie just does nothing for me though. It’s my second time watching and I still find myself checking to see how much time is left. The animation is beautiful but overall this movie puts me to sleep and I just can’t get into it.
